Fourth Annual
Medal of Excellence Gala
Henry and Elizabeth Segerstrom
The Waldorf=Astoria, Starlight Roof
Honoring Henry T. Segerstrom
Developer of South Coast Plaza and Founding Chairman of the Orange County Performing Arts Center / the Segerstrom Center for the Arts
On Monday, June 7, Carnegie Hall presented Henry T. Segerstrom with the Fourth Annual Medal of Excellence. Mr. Segerstrom’s acceptance of this award follows the recent launch of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts’s bi-coastal partnership in presenting major festivals with Carnegie Hall. This represents the first time in its 120-year history that the Hall has partnered with a performing arts center outside New York.
The Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence honors an executive whose accomplishments in the corporate sector complement Carnegie Hall’s stature as one of the premier performance venues in the world. At the Gala, Clive Gillinson, Carnegie Hall’s Executive and Artistic Director, presented Mr. Segerstrom with a Proclamation declaring June 7 Segerstrom Center for the Arts Day in New York.
Attended by over 350 guests from both coasts, the Gala raised $1.5 million for artistic initiatives and the education programs of the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall. The event was held at The Waldorf=Astoria’s Starlight Roof, and included a special performance by mezzo-moprano Denyce Graves and pianist Warren Jones.
