Weill Fellows Program at Carnegie Hall

In 2001, Carnegie Hall established The Weill Fellows Program for educators from around the world to facilitate the exchange of ideas about music and education. The Weill Fellows Program is closely connected with The Weill Music Institute's Cultural Exchange program, in which students and teachers explore the freedoms and structures in the music and culture of India, Mexico, and the United States.

Sponsored in part by the US State Department, The Weill Fellows week, May 16–23, 2010, offers international Cultural Exchange teachers an opportunity to apply for an all-expenses paid trip to meet in New York City.

While at Carnegie Hall, the teachers spend a week together, enhancing their teaching practices to impact quality student learning and cultural understanding—all inspired by musical explorations.

Goals of the program include opportunities to
  • participate in a variety of musical experiences
  • celebrate exemplary work in the Cultural Exchange program
  • share best teaching practices with international educators
  • support continued collaborations within school communities
  • Participants in the program will attend large group workshops with teachers from all involved countries, small group sharing sessions, and musical activities that include performances at Carnegie Hall and around New York City.
