Although Carnegie Hall's JapanNYC activities have ended, the spirit of the festival lives on with Japan Society's Bye Bye Kitty!!! exhibition, continuing through June 12, 2011. Here, Japan Society Vice President Joe Earle describes how the exhibited artists are doing something very different from the familiar stereotype of Japanese art over the past 20 years, and how the changing society in Japan led to this new direction.
