James MacMillan’s new work was acclaimed as a “big virtuoso concerto in the late–19th century mold” by the UK’s Guardian last year. The review also praised Vadim Repin’s premiere performance as a “tour de force.” Conjuring the sounds of Scottish fiddle music and Romantic-era fireworks, this music fits perfectly with works by Berlioz and Tchaikovsky.
