In April 2009, Schiff completed a journey through Beethoven’s piano sonatas—epic music of grand scale—here at Carnegie Hall. This season, the always-engaging pianist explores the intimate world of Schumann’s sets of Romantic miniatures. Meet the fiery Florestan and the introverted Eusebius, witness the goings-on of their secret musical society, and be whisked away to a masked ball.

Aimard saves the best for last, concluding his US recital tour here at Carnegie Hall. The former Perspectives artist’s recital includes two early works by 20th-century French masters: Messiaen’s Préludes—showing the composer’s indebtedness to Debussy—and Ravel’s Miroirs.

Celebrate the 200th anniversary year of a legendary figure in music history, a composer whose works radiate all the passion and mysticism of 19th-century Romanticism. Thibaudet, a refined and colorful pianist, brings to light the multifarious and often contradictory sides of Liszt’s musical personality, with a program that ranges from a work inspired by French Romantic poetry to music honoring Saint Francis of Assisi.

Mr. Pollini regrets that, due to illness, he must cancel his remaining US recital appearances. Murray Perahia, who was scheduled to replace Mr. Pollini, has also been forced to cancel so as not to impair his long-term recovery from an earlier injury. This concert will not be rescheduled this season.
