Neighborhood Concert: Juan-Carlos Formell & Son Radical

Brooklyn Museum
Channeling the Afro-Caribbean experience via his dazzling electric guitar, Cuban music rebel Juan-Carlos Formell leads an insurrection against the conventions of Latin music. His project Son Radical defies categorization. The music is connected to Cuban roots, yet isn’t nostalgic; delivers driving rhythms without being dance-party music; features the brilliant instrumentals of rock en clave, yet is not typical Latin jazz; and uses poetic texts too complex for Latin pop.
