The London Haydn Quartet was born out of a passion for Haydn’s string quartets. Playing on gut strings with classical bows, the acclaimed ensemble has been invited by many of the most important concert series in the UK, the US, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland. In addition, the group has performed several of its own series of the complete Haydn string quartets.

The London Haydn Quartet recently gave recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall; the HSBC Cheltenham Music Festival; the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada; Haydn festivals in Esterhazy (Canada), Lincoln (Canada), and Lyon; and the English Haydn Festival. Forthcoming performances include a series of concerts at Wigmore Hall, as well as concerts in Germany, Spain, and France.

The London Haydn Quartet also collaborates with period-clarinettist Eric Hoeprich, with whom it recorded the Brahms and Mozart quintets on the Glossa label. Among the ensemble’s recent performances with Mr. Hoeprich are a return engagement at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; several concerts in the US (including a recital at the Library of Congress) and Canada; and appearances in Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, and the Czech Republic.

The London Haydn Quartet’s recordings of Haydn’s six Op. 9 quartets and six Op. 17 quartets, on the Hyperion label, have been met with enormous critical praise. The ensemble’s Op. 20 set is due for release in early 2011.
